CW+ STUDIO

CW+ STUDIO

The CW+ Studio is a bespoke multi-functional space situated on Level 2 at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. This flexible space acts as a base for our award-winning performance and participatory programme Arts for All, and enables the programme to be accessed by the wider hospital community. It hosts a wide range of patient- and staff-facing activities led by musicians, visual artists, creative movement specialists and art psychotherapists.

The CW+ Studio was developed in response to our own research and evaluation, as well as the person-centred care model recommended by the NHS Long Term Plan and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). They all highlight the importance of immersive arts opportunities for the health and wellbeing of all patient groups, as an integral part of care packages delivered in hospitals and the wider community through social prescribing.

The CW+ Studio hosts a varied programme including artist and musician residencies and health- and wellbeing-related support groups for our inpatients, outpatients and hospital community. Our ambition is to offer the best care during a hospital admission, and to support people to stay well in their communities once discharged, by promoting healthy aging and encouraging social engagement.

By making the CW+ Studio the home of our Arts for All programme, we have targeted key cross-borough health priorities. These aims include reducing emergency readmissions; addressing problems caused by physical inactivity; and supporting local people living with multiple conditions including dementia, cancer, pain management, which are often exacerbated by loneliness and isolation.

The space is used for:

  • Non-ward-based sessions of the Arts for All programme
  • Rehabilitation sessions with therapy teams
  • Community outreach
  • Support groups for carers with clinical and community partners
  • Clinical sessions by art therapists
  • Staff wellbeing
